It was a day full of sadness. People stood around a burial, waiting for their loved one to be put to rest. Tears rolled down many faces. The tears that touched everyone’s heart the most though were those of Morimoto Serenity. Her best friend had left her. Her best friend was forever gone. Her best friend had died in her arms. Although Serenity’s tears were silent, they were each full of remorse, pain and guilt.

As Serenity approached her apartment, she heard some noise. She smiled as she forced the thought away of the noise coming from her apartment. That was, until she saw the door to her apartment opened ajar. She quickly ran inside to see her best friend bleeding to death on the floor, with a knife in her chest. She looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the culprit. There he was, on the balcony. He turned around and saw Serenity. He gave her an icy smile, as if he had won some competition between the two of them.
“No one could ever keep Yui away from me.”
“You bastard!” Serenity ran to the balcony to try and catch the culprit. Her skills in fighting weren’t for nothing. Unfortunately, as she reached the balcony, the culprit had already jumped off.
“If I can’t have her alive, then I’ll take her dead.” All Serenity could do was watch as the culprit’s body landed on the pavement below, with blood splattering everywhere. Without a second thought to the man that had just committed suicide, she returned to Yui’s side. Serenity held Yui close. Her friend was still breathing, though barely.
“I’m so sorry Yui! I shouldn’t have left you home alone with that crazy bastard still out loose!”
“Ser-Serenity. Don’t cry and don’t say you’re sorry. I shouldn’t have opened the door. You have done all that you could to protect me, and yet, I let this happen by not listening to you.” Yui coughed and blood came out.
“Yui! You can’t die! You still have to finish college and achieve your dreams! We still have to go back to Japan and see all of the places there!” All of a sudden, Yui’s body went limp and unmoving. Serenity quickly checked her pulse. Unfortunately, it wasn’t beating.
“Yui! Yui! Don’t you dare leave me! We haven’t lived our lives to the fullest yet like we promised each other! Yui!” The medics and police came in to take care of the scene. Serenity followed them into the hospital, but wasn’t allowed past the emergency doors.
“I’m sorry ma’am. You’ll have to wait out here.” Serenity nodded and paced in the waiting room. Ten minutes later, the doctor came out. His expression said it all. Just at that moment, Yui’s family came in. Serenity ignored them, as she was angered about Yui’s past with them. Instead, she just walked past them and out of the hospital, blinded by her tears and feeling the most unbearable pain ever.
~ E N D ~
It had been three months since Yui’s funeral and everyone noticed that there had been a change in Serenity. She had grown distant. She didn’t talk to anyone anymore, not her brother’s Ryutaro and Shintaro, and not even her childhood friend, Keito. Each had tried to penetrate through her thoughts and barrier to society, but none could succeed. One night, Shin went into his older sister’s room as she stared out the window.
“Serenity?” She turned, as emotionless as ever, without a smile.
“Yes, Shin?”
“Ryu and I know that you were planning to go back to Japan with Yui, so we thought that maybe we could take you and show you around. I would like to see our home as well, and I’d like to do so with you.” Shin looked at Serenity with pleading eyes. Serenity just returned her gaze back to outside the window.
“Sure. When are we leaving?”
“Ryu-nii was able to get tickets and we’ll be leaving in two days. Would you like me to help you pack? I’ve already packed mine.”
“No, thank you. I can do it myself.”
“Oh, okay.” With that, Shintaro left Serenity’s room.
[I miss my bubbly, older sister. Yui, I wish you could help.] Shintaro returned to his room that he shared with Ryutaro.
“Well?”
“She said yes, but she wasn’t overly excited about it. She’s just as emotionless as the day of Yui’s funeral.” Keito turned away from the computer and looked at his two friends.
“He’s right. I’ve tried almost every day since Yui’s funeral and I haven’t succeeded.” Ryutaro just sighed.
“I’ll call Yuri and let him know we’re coming. Maybe him, Ryosuke and Yuto can help us with her. I would really like to have my sister back.” They all heaved a sigh as they remembered their fun days with Serenity.
Serenity sat in her room, packing her things into her suitcase ever so slowly. She took her time to fold her clothes and go over what she needed. As she turned around to do a triple check, she knocked over a picture frame. She heaved a sigh and bent to pick it up. When she looked at it, she noticed that it was a picture of her and Yui posing in front of a blown up map of Japan. Her tears came down as she cried.
“Well, I’m going to go now. It’s getting kind of late and I need to start packing as well. I’ll see you guys at the airport.” He left the Morimoto brothers’ room and went to Serenity’s room.
“I guess I should try just one more time.” He knocked before entering.
“Serenity, I-“ He froze as he saw her sitting on the floor, crying over a picture frame. He immediately went and hugged her.
“My dear friend, what am I going to do with you? All you do is stare out your window and we can’t even talk to you.” He received no reply.
“Let’s pack this frame so that Yui will be in Japan with us.” Keito took the frame, with tears in his eyes, and packed it into Serenity’s suitcase. Outside of Serenity’s room, her two brothers stood, crying, as they watched their sister’s tears flow down. Even after three months, no one could ever miss the pain in her tears and everyone could feel it.
The day for them to leave for Japan came. Their parents sent them off. Mrs. Morimoto hugged her daughter.
“Have fun, okay?”
“Yes, mom.” Mr. Morimoto almost cried at his daughter’s emotionless reply.
“Make sure to take many pictures for us, okay dear? If we could be there with you children, we would.”
“Yes, dad.” With a final wave, Shintaro, Ryutaro, Keito, and Serenity went to catch their plane. As Keito sat down next to Serenity, he noticed that she was staring out the window again. Keito held back his tears as he smiled to himself.
[If anyone can succeed in making you smile, it’s going to have to be Chinen, Yuri. There’s nothing that guy can’t do.]
Although it was a long ride, the four of them finally arrived in Japan. Waiting there to greet them were Yamada, Ryosuke and Nakajima, Yuto. The friends all hugged in greeting while Serenity stood back and watched. Seeing how close the friends were, brought back memories of her and Yui. She forced back her tears. Ryutaro took her hand and led her to the group.
“Ryosuke. Yuto. This is my older sister Serenity.” They each held out their hands in greeting, but Serenity just stared at them. She turned around to face Ryutaro.
“Ryu? When are we going to find a place to stay at?”
“Oh, uh… we’re staying at Yuri’s place. His family has plenty of extra rooms and it’ll save us money. We can leave now, if you want.” Keito wrapped his arms around Serenity and left the airport with Shintaro, leaving Ryutaro to explain the situation.
“I’m sorry about that, guys. It’s just that, ever since Serenity’s best friend, Yui, died, she hasn’t been her energetic, happy self. Usually, she’s always excited to meet new people. But the turn of events changed that. I’m truly sorry.” Ryosuke smiled.
“No problem!”
“We’re hoping we can get our same old sister back. I miss her a lot.” Yuto saluted Ryutaro.
“In that case, we’ll all try our best.” All of them laughed as they followed the other three.
“By the way, where’s Yuri?”
“Oh, his parents needed his help at the company. Poor guy. But he’s loving it, so I guess we can’t really pity him.” They loaded Yuto’s and Ryosuke’s car and drove off to Yuri’s place. To their luck, Yuri was home.
“Why didn’t you come to the airport if you were home?”
“Well, since you two were there, I thought I’d just come back home and prepare for our guests. And besides, didn’t you see my new toy that I picked up on the way home?” They all looked out to the driveway and saw that Yuri had a new car, once again. Yuto shook his head in disbelief.
“You have the good life, and yet you give your parents hell.”
“I don’t give them hell. I just don’t like to do everything they tell me to.” Yuri flashed a smile.
“Whatever! Here.” Yuto handed Yuri Serenity’s luggage. Meanwhile, a servant came to the door to help.
“Where’s the restroom?” All Yuri could do was stare at the girl in front of him. Just looking at her, Yuri felt like his heart had shattered. He turned to the servant.
“Please show this beautiful lady to the restroom.” He flashed Serenity a killer smile. Serenity ignored him and followed the servant to the restroom. When she locked it, she looked in the mirror and smirked.
“Who does he think he is?”
Yuri helped the rest of them to their room. Yuto and Ryosuke were also going to spend the summer there as well, since they rarely got to see Shintaro, Keito and Ryutaro.
“Don’t you dare try and hit on my sister, Yuri. We brought her here to make her happy, not to get her a boyfriend.” Yuri smiled.
“I wasn’t hitting on your sister, Ryu. If you hadn’t noticed, she almost smiled at what I said, granted it was going to be smirk, but nonetheless, a smile.” Ryutaro smiled.
“In that case, you can go ahead and flirt with my sister. I know she won’t fall for your tricks.” Yuri smiled.
“I promise I will only use them to put a smile on her face for you.” With that, Yuri gave Ryutaro the same smile he showed to Serenity, resulting in a pillow being thrown at him.
“But don’t try and use them on me!” They all laughed as Yuri went to the next room to set up for Serenity. Just as he closed the door to Ryutaro’s room, he almost bumped into Serenity.
“Oh. Sorry. Would you like to see your room now?”
“Where was I going to sleep? In the living room?”
“That can be arranged.” Serenity just walked passed Yuri, but not before he caught the smile on her face.
[Score!] He smiled as he passed her and opened the door to another room.
“Just because I’m a girl, you give me a pink room?”
“What color would you like?”
“Black.” Yuri froze as he connected her status to the meaning of the color. He quickly recovered.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have a room in that color. No one likes to be reminded of death. So, for you…” He opened the room next door.
“I’ll give you the room that’s all white. I would give you another color, but they’re all occupied.”
“By who?” Yuri smiled at her.
“Me.” He set her luggage down.
“Would you like me to help you unpack?”
“No.”
“Okay.” Yuri knelt down and unzipped her suitcase.
“I said you didn’t have to help me.”
“But I want to.”
“I don’t want you to.”
“My word is above everyone else’s here.”
“Suit yourself then.” Serenity went and sat on the bed. Yuri just smiled. He hung all her clothes up for her.
“So, do you want to tell me about yourself, Morimoto Serenity?”
“No.”
“Well, I’m a rich person.”
“Everyone can see that.” Yuri smiled. He continued to tell her all about his life, from what he could remember as a child up to just recently.
“And that’s my life.” Yuri pulled out the picture frame of Serenity and Yui.
“Who’s this?”
“She was a friend of mine.”
“Was?”
“She passed away.” Yuri turned to look at Serenity. He saw a tear fall down her cheek.
“How?”
“She had a crazy stalker.”
“What did he do?”
“He… he stabbed her.”
“Is he in jail now?”
“No. He jumped off my apartment balcony.”
“Do you still live there?”
“I couldn’t. I wouldn’t be able to stand all the things that happened that day. I moved back in with my parents. At least they provide some comfort.”
“And you give them the silent treatment instead.” Serenity looked at Yuri.
“I guess you could say so.” Yuri looked at the picture and put it by the window that showed the garden.
“My parents named this garden Heaven. Every time you look at this beautiful garden, think of it as Yui’s home and how happy she is.”
“Thanks for trying, but I don’t think I’ll ever be the bundle of joy I used to be. Yui was like the younger sister who I wanted to give everything to and do everything with. But…”
Serenity’s tears flowed in silence.
“But I can’t carry out those hopes anymore! She gave me my smiles and became my sole reason to succeed! And when she left, so did my dreams and hopes! I wanted to make sure she had a perfect life! Her past was so unbearable! I couldn’t ever force it out of my head! So innocent, yet life wasn’t fair for her! Every guy’s attention was always focused on getting her into their bed! And her parents used her beauty to try and land some money and a high status! They nearly let her get raped! If I hadn’t been there, she would’ve taken her own life much sooner! She was so close to becoming independent and leaving her past behind her! And then she has some bastard take her life just because he couldn’t have her!” Serenity began to release all her emotions at once. Sadness. Anger. Pain. Regret. Failure. Yuri instinctively hugged Serenity.
“I know your pain. Serenity. My grandma was like my best friend. She was always there for me. But you must know, life isn’t always perfect and it’ll never be fair.” Serenity just cried in Yuri’s arms.
Ryutaro stood outside Serenity’s door, bubbling with anger.
[I can see why Serenity had become so protective of Yui.]He took a few calming breaths before returning to his room.
Yuri wiped away Serenity’s tears as he smiled.
“I think it’s been long past time that you laugh and enjoy yourself. I know you miss Yui but you need to think about your other friends and family. They miss the old you too.”
“I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to laugh along with them ever again.”
“And I’m sure she’d also like to still hear your laughter. Just because she isn’t physically here, it doesn’t mean she isn’t here at all.” With that, Yuri stood up and left Serenity alone in her room. Subconsciously, she looked out the window. Immediately, she saw the picture frame and Yuri’s words came flooding back.
~ My parents named this garden Heaven. Every time you look at this beautiful garden, think of it as Yui’s home and how happy she is. ~
Serenity smiled as she picked up the frame.
[Yui, I truly wish you were here.] Just as Serenity set the picture frame down, there was a knock on her door. She turned around to see her younger brother, Shintaro.
“Yes, Shin?”
“We’re heading out now. Ryosuke said there’s a carnival in town. Would you like to go?”
“Is Yuri going?”
“Of course! He’s treating us.” Serenity gave a half smile.
“Okay. I’ll be down in a bit.” Seeing her half smile, Shintaro almost leapt with joy. But he remained calm, nodded and ran to his room. Ryutaro was the only one there.
“Ryu! Ryu! Guess what?!”
“What?”
“Why do people always answer like that to that question. They’re supposed to guess.”
“Because you told me to guess what. Anyway, hurry up and talk!”
“Oh, right! Serenity half smiled! It wasn’t her happy smile, but it was a smile!” Ryutaro yelped with joy.
“Our sister is recovering!” The two brothers jumped with joy all around the room, until Ryutaro unexpectedly stopped.
“Ahem!” Shintaro looked at his older brother.
“What?”
“I believe we should head down now. And I’m sure Keito would like to know of this too.”
“Right.” Both took a deep breath before joining their friends downstairs.
“Why so jolly, you two?” Seeing the two brothers, Keito already had the answer to his question.
[Serenity is finally becoming the old Serenity we all know.]
“I don’t know about Ryu, but I’m excited for the carnival! I haven’t been to one since I was six!”
“And of course, being the youngest, you would act like the kid.” Ryosuke and Yuto laughed.
“You’re forgetting Yuri.”
“What about me?” All of them turned to see Yuri, followed by Serenity, descending the stairs.
“Oh. Nothing.”
“You five are trouble.” Shintaro smiled at Yuri.
“They called you a kid.”
“Hey! Shin! Can’t you ever keep your mouth shut?!”
“When I choose to.” They all laughed, except for Serenity. She had gone back to her emotionless self. Ryutaro, Shintaro, and Keito pushed away their doubts, knowing that Yuri could make her smile again. Who else would be as successful as him?
They all piled into Yuri’s parents’ van as they drove off to the carnival. When they arrived, it was crowded already. They found a parking spot and walked up to the entrance.
“Wow. This is one of the biggest carnivals Japan has ever had.”
“It’s tourist season. Of course they’d have a big one. They need the money.” Ryutaro pulled Yuri aside.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I’d really like it if you could walk around with Serenity and talk to her some more. I don’t how you do it, but you’re the only one that seems to get through to her. I was standing outside her door when you two were talking. No one has ever gotten that story out of her. I didn’t even know.” Yuri looked at his friend.
“Not a problem at all. I’m more than happy to help. She reminds me so much of my grandma. And I’m sure she was as happy and passionate about everything as my grandma also was.”
“Thanks so much, Yuri. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“I look at you and Shin as my younger brothers too, you know? And I know how close Keito was with her, so it would be helping him too. Seeing you three sad won’t make this trip enjoyable.” With that, they parted. Yuri and Serenity went one way while the rest went the other.
“How come Yuri and Serenity didn’t come with us?” Ryutaro looked back at his sister and Yuri. With a smile, he walked ahead of his friends.
“It was upon my request.”
Yuri walked ahead of Serenity, looking at all the game stalls.
“What game should I play next?”
“Uh, Yuri?”
“Yeah?” Yuri didn’t even turn around.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to carry anymore of your prizes.”
“Would you like to play then?”
“No.”
“Okay then. You carry my prizes and I’ll win some more.” Behind all the prizes, Serenity rolled her eyes.
[And to think I had started to like this guy. Ha!] All of a sudden, a huge white polar bear caught Serenity’s eyes.
~ F L A S H B A C K ~
“Serenity? Have you ever seen a polar bear?”
“Yeah. On T.V.” Yui laughed at Serenity’s reply.
“No, you idiot. I was talking about an actual one, right in front of you.”
“No, I haven’t. I know that there are some zoos that have them, but I have never had the time to visit those zoos.”
“After we come back from Japan, our next place to go should be Antarctica. I would really like to see one. Their fur looks so clean and pure.”
[You were once pure too, Yui. And you still are.]
“Yeah! We should definitely do that! But first, we’ll have to start putting money aside for that.”
~ E N D ~
“Here.” Serenity snapped out of her thoughts and saw the polar bear she had just been looking at.
“Huh? When did you win that?”
“When you were swimming in your thoughts.”
“Oh.” Yuri threw it on top of all the other toys.
[Urgh! Jerk.]
A couple of hours later, all of them met up at the exit, each one laughing about how much fun they had. Except Serenity.
“Yuri! You win all those things and then you make Serenity carry them?”
“I asked her to play, but she didn’t want to. So, I decided, since she’s there, she can hold them so I’d have hands to play.” Ryutaro shot Yuri an evil stare, only to receive a wink and a smile in return. They all, once again, piled into the van. It was much more difficult with Yuri’s toys.
“Why do you need all of this?!”
“Yuto, you out of all people should know. I’m going to the orphanage tomorrow.”
“Right. I forgot.” Everyone fell asleep on the car ride back except for Yuri, Serenity and Ryutaro.
“How was the carnival, Serenity?”
“It was fine.” Ryutaro frowned at the shallow response.
[And I thought that Yuri had succeeded.] When they arrived at the house, Ryutaro again pulled Yuri aside.
“I thought I told you to make this enjoyable for her!”
“I’m not even done! Give me some time, okay? I am trying. You need to have a little more faith in me.” Ryutaro sighed.
“You’re right. Sorry. It’s just that…”
“She’s not going to be overcome with joy all of a sudden. She’s been mourning for three months. Do you know what that is? Pain. Guilt. Emptiness. I promise you Ryu, before you leave, she will be your laughing sister again.”
“I’m sorry Yuri. It’s just that I’m so worried.” With that, the two of them returned to the house. Yuri put all the toys into gift bags for the children, except for the polar bear. He smiled as he picked it up and walked to Serenity’s room.
“Serenity?”
“Yes?”
“Are you sleeping yet?”
“No.” Yuri closed the door behind him. He walked over to where Serenity was, staring out the window.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I don’t know. It’s just calming to look out this window. You were right. It is beautiful and is very deserving of the name Heaven.” Serenity hadn’t looked away from the window once.
“Can I ask you something?”
“What?”
“Why were you staring at this polar bear?” That question caught her attention. She turned to face Yuri just to see that he had the polar bear from the carnival in his hands.
“Yui…”
“Was it her favorite animal?”
“I don’t know what her favorite animal was, but…” Yuri kept silent, waiting for Serenity’s response.
“She wanted to see a live one. We had planned to go to Antarctica.” Yuri smiled.
“You had many trips planned, didn’t you?”
“No. Just this trip and the trip to Antarctica.” Yuri sat on her bed.
“I think you might have become an icicle there.” Serenity almost laughed, but held it back.
“Maybe.” Yuri frowned.
[Almost.] He held out the polar bear to Serenity.
“Here. I actually won this one for you. I noticed that you had stopped following me, so I turned around to see you staring at this. I don’t know how this could’ve received your attention when I’m much better looking.” Serenity couldn’t hold back her smile.
[How does he do it?] Serenity accepted it.
“Thank you.” Her smile was immediately gone.
“I was wondering, would you like to go to the orphanage with me tomorrow? Unless you hate kids.”
“No. I would love to go with you.”
“Be up by eight in the morning. I tend to get there early to help the nuns set up. It’s like a fun day for the children.”
“Okay.”
“Oh, and by the way. I would be more than happy to take you to Antarctica to see a polar bear. I wouldn’t mind seeing one as well.”
“We’ll see.” Yuri smiled at her response.
“Good night, Serenity.”
“Good night to you too, Yuri.” With that, Yuri left Serenity’s room. As soon as he closed the door, he silently leapt with joy.
[I don’t know why this makes me so happy, but it does.] With a calming breath, Yuri returned to his room.
The following morning, Yuri went downstairs to find Serenity already waiting for him.
“Wow. I tell you to be up by eight, and yet here I am, ten minutes late.”
“It’s okay.” Serenity gave a half smile. Again, it warmed Yuri’s heart, but with much more concern, on his part.
[Am I supposed to be feeling like this?] Yuri pushed the thought aside.
[I’m just happy I’m succeeding. That’s all.]
“Shall we go then?” Serenity nodded and followed Yuri out. They ran into Yuto and Ryosuke.
“Hey, you two? Where are you guys going?”
“To the orphanage.”
“Oh! Can we come too? I haven’t seen those kids in a while, and boy, do I miss them!”
“Sure.” They followed Yuri to his newly bought car.
“I would die to have all these things of yours.” Yuri just smiled. He paused half way getting into his car.
“Wait. If you two come with us, then what about Shin, Ryu?, and Keito?” Yuto thought about it for a second.
“Right. I got so excited about the kids, I forgot those three. Well, you two go first then. Ryosuke and I will wait for Shin, Ryu, and Keito. But no doubt I’m waking them up this instant.”
Ryutaro sat in his room, smiling to himself as he recalled the half smile that Serenity gave when talking with Yuri.
“Why so smiley?”
“Nothing.”
“You saw Serenity smile, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
“I’m glad the old Serenity is finally coming back. It still amazes me how Yuri did it in only a couple of days, while it took us more than three months and we still didn’t succeed.” Just at that moment, Ryosuke and Yuto burst into the room.
“Hurry up! We need to hurry and go to the orphanage! I miss all those little kids, and I’m not wasting another minute!”
“Sheesh! Why don’t you just adopt them all?!”
“I would if I could!” Ryutaro laughed at Yuto’s response. They quickly dressed and left for the orphanage.
Upon their arrival, all the activities had started already. Kids could be seen running around the area, and there were also volunteers around. One of the children spotted them and ran towards them.
“Unce Yuto! Uncle Ryosuke!”As soon as their names were mentioned, all the other children ran towards them as well.
“I told you I missed these kids!” There was a big group hug. Ryosuke and Yuto then introduced Shintaro, Ryutaro, and Keito to the children and the other volunteers. Amongst all the chaos, Ryutaro looked up, trying to find Serenity and Yuri. He spotted them walking along the path to the park about a block away. He turned to find Keito looking at him. He had also seen the two. They both smiled and returned their attention to the children in front of them.
[I envy you, Yuri. You can bring a smile to anyone’s face without knowing you’re doing it. Thank you so much.]
Walking beside Yuri, Serenity felt tingly in the pit of her stomach, and that feeling soon spread all over her body.
“Did I ever tell you about my grandma?”
“You mentioned her once.”
“Did I tell you that you remind me of her all the time?”
“How so? I’ve been so cold and ignorant of others.”
“True. But for some reason, I know that you were different before the death of your friend.” There was a moment of silence.
“My grandma laughed at everything, whether it was something stupid or something you were supposed to cry about.” Serenity kept silent.
“I wish I could hear you laugh just once.”
“I don’t know if I could.” There was another moment of silence before Yuri spoke again.
“You told me you adore children, right?”
“Yes.”
“Do you adore me?” Serenity paused in her steps and looked at Yuri with shock.
“You see, I’m a kid too. At heart.” Serenity laughed at that. Hearing that, Yuri smiled and pulled Serenity into a hug.
“Such a beautiful laugh. I can see why Shin, Ryu and Keito wanted to hear it again. It brings happiness to everyone.” They turned back towards the orphanage.
“Thank you so much, Yuri. If it wasn’t for you, I may have lost my laugh forever.”
“No. You would’ve laughed even if you hadn’t met me. Nothing could ever stop you from laughing. You just weren’t letting it out.”
“I guess so.” Upon their return, everyone noticed how much more happy Serenity seemed. Her smiles and laughter were proof of it. When the day ended, Ryutaro quickly rushed the other four off before Yuri and Serenity could approach them.
“She’s smiling and laughing now. What else do you want Yuri to do for her?”
“Love her.” They all looked at Ryutaro with shock. They then quickly searched out Serenity and Yuri.
“Wow, would you look at those two.”
“I know. They look like the world’s most happy couple. And they’re not even one!”
“Those two were just meant to be.”
“My dear sister has finally found her happiness again.”
“You four are all right. But if we don’t go now, they won’t realize that! Hurry!” They quickly piled into Yuto’s car and drove off.
Serenity and Yuri looked around for Shintaro, Ryutaro, Yuto and Ryosuke, and Keito.
“They were just here a moment ago.” Yuri grabbed Serenity’s hand.
“It’s okay. I need to talk to you anyway.”
“Oh. Okay.” Ever since her smile came back, Serenity couldn’t stop smiling. Yuri was happy to know she was finally happy again, even though she may still have pain over losing her best friend. They found a bench and sat down. There was only silence between them.
“Yuri?”
“Serenity, when I first saw you, my heart shattered. There was just something about you that made me feel sad. After finding out about Yui, I was determined to put a smile on your face again and to have you laughing for your brothers again.” Serenity remained silent. All of a sudden, Yuri turned to face Serenity.
“Serenity, I want to be the one to see your tears. I want to be the one to hear you laugh. I want to be the one that can always make you smile.” Serenity was shocked at all of the words that were coming from Yuri’s lips.
“Morioto Serenity, will you be my girlfriend?” All Serenity could do was smile even bigger.
“You know what made me smile? It’s because you touched my heart in a different way.” Serenity leaned in to kiss Yuri.
